Camino de Santiago: Day 2

This past June I hiked over 130 kilometers with my dad on the Camino de Santiago in Galicia, Spain. I’m sharing that journey in a series of blog posts day-by-day. This is Day 2; feel free to go back and start with Day 1!

DAY 2

It was difficult both physically and mentally to put on the backpack and keep going this morning.

Vigo to Redondela: 15 kilometers

The Camino itself was an easier path today, gently winding up out of Vigo before remaining fairly level along the Senda de auga with magnificent vistas of the bay below.

I learned though that there is no such thing as an easy day on the Camino. It turns out that my new shoes, bought in an effort to scale down and lighten my load, are perhaps too small and thus causing serious blisters. I fear that all the positive vibes in the world can’t save me from my feet.

Still, despite our late start of 8:30am on the Camino, we made it to the small town of Redondela, nestled among lush green hills, just shortly after 1pm.

Our albergue tonight is simple and comfortable. We are sharing a bunk bed curtained off from the 40+ others that will also sleep here tonight.

It should go without say yet I’ll write it here – there may be hardships on the way, but most of them can be solved with some tapas, café solo, and blister pads.

Buen camino.
